CANERS Foundation

CANERSOur Investment in the Future

CANERS is the primary source of funding for the California nursery industry’s applied research and scholarship programs. You can make a real impact on this $3 million endowment.

Why CANERS needs your support now more than ever:

#1. Give back to the industry by funding critical research.
Over the past four years, the CANERS endowment has funded over $400,000 in research to help nursery growers control pests and diseases, develop new technologies and improve efficiencies. This research would not be possible without CANERS.

#2. Invest in the future of California’s nursery industry.
Each year CANERS provides up to $25,000 in educational scholarships for those pursuing a career in horticulture. This important activity that supports the sustainability of our industry would not be possible without CANERS.

#3. Maximize funds available for important nursery industry needs.

RESEARCH

Continuing innovation is valuable to all nursery businesses.

Through the CANERS endowment, the Plant California Alliance supports research to ensure our members continue to lead the world in producing and delivering healthy, sustainable nursery products.

ABOUT CANERS
The CANERS Foundation for Research and Scholarships was established in 1969 to support nursery industry research and provide educational scholarships for those pursuing a career in the horticulture sector. It has grown into the largest state nursery association endowment of its kind. With over $3 million in principal, the endowment continues to provide needed funding of industry research and scholarships.

The CANERS Foundation has funds available to support research pertinent to the production, post-harvest handling and marketing of nursery crops. It also funds scholarships and allows individuals, families or companies to establish legacy awards.
CANERS funds are professionally managed with a set of investment guidelines established and monitored by the CANERS trustees. CANERS is a separate charitable corporation, 501(c)3. The trustees oversee the endowment and all its activities.

Committees have been established to oversee how funds are spent. The chairpersons of both the Scholarship and Research Committees are members of the CANERS Foundation Board of Trustees. They are required to report the activity of their committees and to make formal requests for funding.

The CANERS Foundation investment adviser is Tom Qvistgaard, Senior Vice President- Wealth Management of UBS, Sacramento, CA. and the CPA is Keith Rood, Sacramento, CA.
